Happy New Year! Blog Hoppin' Fun!

**See Giveway information below**
Instead of talking about traditions on New Year's day, I thought I'd share this short history of New Year’s Day and those pesky resolutions.
The date of the "new year" varies from society to society. For instance, the Jewish new year, Rosh Hashanah, is celebrated in the fall, while the Chinese New Year begins on the second new moon after winter solstice (late January to mid-February). Until 1753, England and its colonies rang in the new year on March 25, which coincided with a Christian holiday called Lady Day (the Feast of the Annunciation). They made the switch to January 1 when they converted from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian. Simple as that!
If you're making any difficult new year's resolutions this year, take heart: people have been struggling with them ever since the early Babylonians started the tradition. (Their most popular resolution was to return borrowed farm equipment, in case you were wondering.) LOL! I don't borrow much from people, but earlier this year I borrowed a pole tree saw and returned it. Keeping it too long meant I actually had to use it! What’s the most unusual or the last thing you’ve borrowed and did you return it?
2012 was a fantastic year for me and surpassed my wildest dreams. After a 4-year dry spell where I didn't think I'd ever sell another book or get an agent, I sold my second novel, WICKED PARADISE. I then went on to sell my debut YA novel, VIGILANTE NIGHTS, and obtained agent representation. WICKED PARADISE will always have a special place in my heart, as will 2012.

As the most powerful sorceress from medieval times, Morgan of the Druids has magic desired by both good and evil. Desperate to save a future post-apocalyptic world from total destruction, sorcerers send Morgan through time to an island prison to kill WindWraith, the long-imprisoned Fomorian demon. When Morgan arrives, she learns that WindWraith plans to possess her body to enable its escape, for she contains the perfect mix of magic and a bond to the fiercest Druid-assassin of the 21st century. A bond as lethal as it is desirable to the dangerous man intruding upon Morgan’s dreams.

After a deadly squall tosses Druid-assassin Ryan O'Rourke into the Pacific Ocean, he washes ashore on an unchartered island brimming with magic. Ryan's determined to find a way to return to Earth's wasteland to battle the resurrected Fomorians plaguing the dwindling human race. When he stumbles across the enchantress who tantalizes his dreams to the point of madness, his plans turn upside down. For she stirs in him a hunger that puts his life's purpose at risk.

Morgan has no choice but to kill the Fomorian before it kills her. But Ryan has other plans for the demon…and without Morgan’s magic, there’s no escape from the island. Now Morgan and Ryan must decide between love and duty in a perilous race against the evil that could destroy Earth.

Fascinating. I had no idea that was where the tradition came from.

In true nerdish fashion, the last thing I borrowed was a book froma friend about mythology for research for my current WIP. Sadly, I haven't returned it yet, but intend to on Sunday.

Wicked Paradise sounds like a great read, Erin!
The last thing I borrowed and returned was a mega memory stick from my daughter. She moved out of the nest yesterday, my second daughter to go. I miss them both. We shared all sorts of things, so lots of exchanges in the last few weeks.

Ok so I think I must be wierd because I don't really borrow from anyone, If I need something I usually just go buy it because I'm always scared I would lose what ever I borrowed or something bad happened and it broke etc...

When people ask me to borrow stuff I usually say no, not to be mean it is just that out of all the stuff I had lent out, I have lost 90% of it, even when people borrow money they never pay it back so I just dont do either - borrow or lend - that way I don't have to worry about what kind of luck I will gain - LOL.

Here is to wishing you a great new year.

Happy New Year :) several years ago, my basement flooded & the family room carpet had to be torn up & tossed out. A friend lent me a large area rug that she was't using till I got around to buying new carpeting, it's still being used -- I hate buying carpet. I recently reminded her that I had it, she'd forgotten it was hers ;)

Hmm... the strangest thing I've borrowed was this "jack of all trades" hand tool. I can't, for the life of me, remember what it was called.. but it had everything. My work let me borrow it since my house was within walking distance.. but I remember wanting to keep it. :) (Of course I gave it back!)

The strangest thing I have borrowed is fog solution for fogger machines. I borrowed it not too long ago so I think I am safe to keep it for awhile. I am trying to think of other strange things I have borrowed and the only one that comes to mind is a sump pump. I actually did not return it but my friend came and got it from my house. I had returned it one other time I borrowed it though so does that count?

Thanks so much for the amazing giveaway and being a part of the hop. I hope 2013 brings you as much success as 2012 did plus more.
